From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
